1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
Our example of love: By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Here’s a simple Algebra lesson for you.
If A=B then B=A.
The Bible tells us many of God’s attributes. God is merciful, God is compassionate, God is faithful, and patient. But when it comes to “love” it says “God is love.”
Some other ways to put this,
- To know God is to know love, and you cannot know real love without God.
- To have God is to have love, and you cannot have real love without God.
- To see God is to see love, and you cannot see real love without God.
Keep in mind our example of love at the top,
- To give God is to give love; to give love is to give God.
- To speak God is to speak love; to speak love is to speak God.
- To understand God is to understand love; to understand love is to understand God.
Do you see? To share God to anyone we must share love.
Your second Algebra lesson today.
If A=B and A=C, then B=C.
The Bible also tells us that Jesus (who is God, the second person of the Trinity) is the way, the truth, and the life. And also, “To know Him is to know truth.”
So, God=Love, God=Truth, Love=Truth, and Truth=Love. None of these things can be separated. The most loving thing we can do for someone is to tell them the Truth about God, but always with Love. In order to give Love we must give Truth, and in order to give Truth we must give Love.
See? I think you get the point. You can also do the exercise above (by the bullets) with “the way” and with “life” and it really is overwhelming. God doesn’t just point the way, He is the way. God doesn’t just give life, He is life! And He is love.
I am convinced that everything Jesus did, cleansing the temple, rebuking the Pharisees, walking on water, even withholding his miracles in His hometown, was all done in God’s love. All our actions should also stem from a love for God and a love for people.
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples if you have love for one another.
Luke 10:27 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 5:44 Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
Luke 6:27 But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either. Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back. Treat others the same way you want them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. If you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners in order to receive back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
In God’s Love,
