Camp NaNoWriMo, July 2013

Another Camp NaNoWriMo in July! ^o^

This July I am not going for 50,000, not 80,000, but 100,004 words! *faints* I’m not asking you to do that though. Because you can change your word-count to whatever suits your month, even 10,000 words count.

For some people who follow my blog, you’re used to skipping any post with a mention of “NaNoWriMo” “novels” or “insane”, but take another look and and give it a second thought. This is for normal and notnormal alike. ^_^ Even if you’ve never liked writing before, you can always try.

For other people, maybe you skip every post but the ones that mention “NaNoWriMo”, and in that case, gear up for another month of noveling!

For visitors who don’t yet know what Camp NaNoWriMo is, I’m only too happy to explain.

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short) is an exciting challenge to write 50,000 words in the month of November. Camp NaNoWriMo is the same challenge, but adapted to fit the Summer months. In July, you can change your wordgoal, choose cabin mates to be partnered with, but basically do the same thing–have fun writing!

This month, honestly, I’m not going to try to get something wonderful this month. In fact, not even something I would dare to show people, I did that last month. This month, *sigh* I’m just writing for the fun of writing. I’m not planning, not paying attention to the plot, I’m just not. That may disappoint some people, but it’s just been too long since I wrote that kind of story. (November 2011 to be exact.)

Tell me what you are doing! Do you know yet? If not–IT STARTS IN THIRTEEN DAYS!

Good luck, peeps! ^o^

7DayStory

Hey Peeps,

I miss NaNoWriMo too much, and on a whim I signed up for the 7DayStory challenge. http://7daystory.com/
If I had been thinking, I would have waited to get a writing buddy to go along with me, but I wasn’t thinking, I was just missing NaNoWriMo.
So! This is the belated, “Join me!” note.

Camp NaNoWriMo, A Grand Finish

Whoop! I finished yesterday with 81,153 words! I finished my wordgoal right as I finished drinking a large cup of strong iced coffee. I generally try to keep still right after I drink coffee, but I couldn’t yesterday. I went nuts. I was talking and shaking and typing and laughing so fast I could barely understand what I wanted to say. After that, I crashed, and was blissfully tired the rest of the evening. It truly was an epic experience. Perhaps the most epic experience of NaNoWriMo, just because I fought so hard to get 80,000 and 10,000 in the last two days when I should have been writing 5,332 in the last two days. And I cheered on friends to the finish, rejoicing with everyone until I was in a state of literal frenzy.

Today–I printed out my whole novel, if you can call it a novel. I finished my original climax so I just carried on the story until I had all my words. It still has no finish. But I printed it all out and held it with my own hands.

nanowrimo novelI was very happy to hold it, and for future NaNoWriMo’s, I won’t be able to do any differently.

I thought about shredding my novel and sleeping on it, Chris Baty’s way to celebrate, but if I did, I might burst into tears and not sleep for days.

I finally named it too, though the name will most likely change sometime.

Also, I am trying to lengthen the story and turn it into three separate stories, so I need more than one title.

Not only was it terribly exciting to hold my novel and see a whole month’s work, it is enjoyable to read through and write notes on. I’ve already been going through with a favorite pen and writing my opinions of each scene. I’m not discouraged yet! (Though I’m sure it will come. Always does, peeps, just be ready for it.)

Endless thanks to all my writing buddies who kept me going, inspired me, and fought countless wordwars. Without those wordwars there’s no way I could have made it.

So now with another rough draft under my belt, and perhaps my favorite yet–

Chair for now!

P.S. I was going to shower before I took these pictures, but that did not seem to me to be in the NaNoWriMo spirit. Don’t worry, I wore deodorant. 😛

Umpiring Poem

I, along with four other siblings (making us the Jackson 5 of the group) have taken upon ourselves to umpire. Never did we know it would be so frustrating to complete this test–I mean we did, but not this much! Here’s a scenario we were given:

The bottom of the first inning, a batter hits a home-run. Coach Drew of the other team, however, wants to protest the game, saying the batter batted out of order. Coach Williams says it is written on his own card–but not according to Coach Drew! He hands over fifty dollars to protest and you start writing up the game sheet.

The question: Is this a protestable call?

The answer: YES! Because it is protesting against a rule and not a judgment call. It is protestable and you cannot deny that coach a protest, even though talking him out of it would be ideal.

We got a lot of discussion in our class about this–because the coach would loose his $50. In the ASL, the batting order is not established until the first batter bats again. And so, the people grading the test said it wasn’t protestable–but actually it is! Only the Jacksons got it right! And we finally made that clear in class–the call is protestable! And we gave ourselves a round of applause when it was finally finished, yes.

So! Here’s the fun part about this test, he were told to give our answer and back it up with an explanation. I did so in a way–I bet they’ve never had before! I wrote my explanation as a poem. ^_^ Yes, yes, I am very pleased with myself. Just so you know before you read it, Barry and Drew are two of our teachers, and Billy is my brother.

A song came to mind, to explain this tale
I just hope that because of this, the test is not failed

Mr. Drew makes an assertion, what first inning, and a fight?!
Such snobbery, arrogance–don’t you know that I’m always right *

What a harebrained, faulty thing to stake your money upon
It’s just a batter out of order, Mr. Drew, COME ON!

But I’ll just pat my head and rub my chest
To inform the field dude that I am doing my best

A protestable call? It is so, it is so
It does not require judgment, but the coach must be slow (in his head, you know)**

In this league that we umpire, the decrees do say
The lineup can be altered in a certain way***

Some coach he must be! Not to grasp this straightforward rule
Mr. Williams (wait, is that Billy?) would not be such a fool

When the batters have not batted the whole lineup through
It is subject to change, and can fluctuate or move
(So long as the batter has not batted before, but I wouldn’t let that happen, would I Mr. Drew?)

So, a protestable call it is, guess I’ll jot it all down ****
But from here and on after, you’ve earned a sizeable frown

A sigh do I heave, a roll of my eyes
People argue with me, is it really a surprise

Mr. Drew, if you are sure that this is what you want to choose
Then HAND IT OVER, BUD! FIFTY BUCKAROOS! *****

(Please remember Mr. Barry, Mr. Drew, and the rest,
The skill of this poem is my own very best.
You wanted something professional, but you got this instead
Just recall that there is something very bungled in my head.)

* Asl 10-B–Umpire is in charge
** Asl 10-B–Cannot protest a judgment call
*** You guys said so in class 😉
****Asl 10-H–must fill out the game sheet
***** Asl 3-A-2–they must pay $50

Okay, and guys! I am not a poet! This poem truly is my very best, and as you can see, it’s not very good–just enough to make me laugh and give me the guts to put it on my test. And yes, it did pass, I got %95 on the test–even though they failed my answer! (They counted my explanation. And I should have gotten 2 more points for getting the question right.)

[Edit: I still can’t believe I actually put this on my test! Okay, I can, but I’m so weird. LOL]

Four of my Favorite Noveling Songs

Just for you all, here’s some music I LOVE when writing. Note, all four videos will lead you to more great music, which is why I’m able to limit this post to only four.

Can You See Me? 35k story

coverI wrote two shorter stories in November last year for NaNoWriMo, because this first one only got me 35,000 words or so.

I finally decided to let my blog readers critique it.

Now understand–this is very rough, there are removed/not inserted scenes, and they are all scattered. The climax scenes were very unprofessionally put together, the chapters stop part way, I think,  but I still want to hear your criticisms.
